What we know from research

What the data indicates about Mildura
By comparing the number of Mildura residents over 80 years of age at the 1991 and 2001 censuses it can
be seen that the increase in that age bracket is four and a half times greater than the increase in the general
population. The increase is five and a half times greater than the overall population growth when the
threshold is set at 85 + years:

This pattern of aging may help to explain reported increase in the demand for services for the elderly.
However, the rate of increase in the 80 years+ and 85 years+ groups in Mildura over the decade 1991-2001
was below the rate of increase in Regional Victoria and Melbourne:
